    Parents are a child's first teacher.  My homework system is set up so that you and your child can have a nightly 10 to 15 minute activity to complete together.  Often, the "assignments" are fun and related to what we are learning in school, holidays, etc...  It is an opportunity for you and your child to work together on something--enjoy a little bit of quality time--and reinforce important concepts.  :) 
     
    Each month I will send home a calendar filled with nightly activities.  You will get the packet in a 2 pocket folder that will be used for homework only.  Feel free to keep all papers in the folder throughout the month.  All you need to do is look at that day's date, find the coordinating papers needed, and have fun!  I would hope that this is not a stressful 10 minutes for you and your child, but an opportunity for them to "show off" to you all that they are learning.
     
    The calendars will come home at the beginning of each month with everything you might need.  After you have finished an activity, send it back the next day in the folder so that I may check it.  I do understand that some nights can get hectic...homework is not mandatory or required.  If you don't get to it one night, maybe save it for another night.  I do feel it is important that your child learns to be responsible for their things and that they make sure to return the folder to school each day.  Also, it is not a bad idea for them to get into the habit of doing a little work each night.
