Course Outline
Materials: Being prepared for class is one of the most important factors for success. For this class, you will need to have the following things everyday unless specified otherwise:
- A sharpened pencil or a pen.
- A three ring binder for notes and assignments. Your notebook should be kept in chronological order.
- A graphing calculator is required (TI 84+)
Course Description:
In Algebra 2 and Trigonometry, students will extend the concepts of algebra and geometry, with a focus on critical thinking and the interconnectedness of mathematics. This is a fast-paced Regent's level course which delves deep into advanced algebraic concepts, requiring students to have gained a strong background knowledge in a previous Algebra 1 course. Algebra 2 with Trigonometry provides a comprehensive exploration of functions, polynomials, rational exponents and radicals, logarithms, rational expressions and equations, sequences and series, statistics, and trigonometry.
Course Overview:
1 Equations and Inequalities
2 Linear Equations and Functions
3 Linear Systems
4 Quadratic Functions and Factoring
5 Polynomials and Polynomial Functions
6 Rational Exponents and Radial Functions
7 Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
8 Rational Functions
- Sequences and Series
- Statistics and Combinatorics
- Trigonometric Ratios and Functions
- Trigonometric Graphs, Identities, and Equations
Grade: Grading will be completed on a total-point system with points distributed based on the type of assessment. Class grades may include, but are not limited to, homework, in-class assignments, participation/preparedness, quizzes, and tests. Quizzes and tests will have the highest point values; as a result, class grades will be determined by and reflect the student’s mathematical content knowledge.
Quizzes and Tests:
Quizzes and tests are summative assessments which will be utilized in order to determine mastery at the end of a section or a chapter. Quizzes and tests are the key components in determining grades not only due to their higher point value, but also due to their critical role in determining content mastery. Students should review notes after each class, complete homework on the day it is assigned, and address questions and concerns during class time in order to be well prepared for each quiz and test. Students are encouraged to seek extra help prior to an assessment. Absolutely no retakes will be permitted.
Homework Policy:
- All problems must be attempted and all work must be shown as demonstrated in class.
- Unless absent, homework will not be accepted late.
- Homework points will be disbursed as follows:
0=not turned in, incomplete, or late
1=incomplete or not corrected
2=complete and corrected.
Quizzes: Several days a week we will take a 5-minute warm-up quiz. This is a basic knowledge quiz that will cover work that we have already gone over in class. It is a timed quiz! It is important that you pick up a quiz sheet as you enter the room and be prepared to start at the beginning of the period.
Tests: You will have a test at the end of specific units. Tests will be announced with plenty of time to prepare. If you are absent the day of a test you will take the test the day you return unless there is an extended period of absence. You cannot re-take tests to improve your grade.
Final Exam: You will take the Common Core Algebra 2 and Trigonometry Regents Exam in June 2022.
Attendance: If you are absent from class it is your responsibility to get class notes and make up any homework, tests or quizzes that you missed. Assignments must be made up within two class days of your absence, unless it is a long-term situation.
Extra Help: Each week I will be available at least two days for extra help 9th period in room 203. This is an excellent opportunity to get individualized help. If you would like to take advantage of 9th period extra help please come prepared with specific homework or class work questions. Please show up to extra help on time. If you need to split up 9th period please make arrangements ahead of time.
Class Rules
- Follow directions the first time they are given.
- Raise your hand and wait to be called on before talking in class.
- Always sit in your assigned seat.

- There is none of the following allowed in class:
- Personal notes you are writing or reading.
- MP3 players, Electronics, etc....

- Cell phones.
TIPS FOR STUDYING:
- Attend Class. During the class relevant examples are discussed, often similar to homework problems.
- Work a lot of problems. This is the key of success in this course.
- Seek help. Ask about poorly understood points as soon as possible.
- Exam Preparation. Redo all the homework/practice problems.
- Work neatly. Make sure you show all work. Answers/solutions given with no explanation may receive little or no credit! During the exams, if you have time, check your work.
- Complete all homeworks.
- Keep track of your grade.
Have A Great Year!
