Course Syllabus

Global Studies 9 is the first year of two years of Global History and Geography. During the year we will cover a number of different units:

• Historical Thinking

• Physical and Human Geography (Culture)

• Early Civilizations (Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, China)

• Belief Systems (Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam)

• Classical Civilizations (Greece, Rome, India, China)

• Medieval Europe (Feudalism, Crusades, Black Death, Commercial Revolution)

• Byzantine Empire and Russia

• Tang and Song Dynasties of China

• Islamic Civilization

• Early African Civilizations

• Mongol Empire

• Ottoman Empire

• Empires of the Americas (Mayan, Aztec, Inca)

• Transformation of Europe (Renaissance and Reformation, Age of Exploration, Imperialism, Scientific Revolution, Age of Absolutism)

 As we study the different units, we will focus on enduring issues; important topics for discussion which have recurred throughout history over time. They include conflict, power, inequality, impacts of innovation, interconnectedness, ideas and beliefs, environmental impacts, and population growth.

Grading Policy

• Assesments (tests, quizzes, projects) 30%

• Assignments (classwork including "Do Now", written work, current events, and homework) 70%
