    Constitution
     

    We, the people of room 203, being a Democratic Republic, want to establish an environment in which we can learn and have fun together, while being safe and treated fairly by teachers, principals, classmates, and others we come into contact with at school. We want to establish an environment where learning, exploration, positive self-esteem, and mutual respect exists.

    Article l

    The principal should treat all students equally and fairly. The principal should maintain safety by establishing rules to help make sure students don’t physically harm or threaten each other in any way. The principal should encourage that all in the Cahill community treat each fairly and with respect, and should enforce consequences when necessary.

    Article ll

    The teacher should help to make certain that students are able to learn and work in a safe environment. The teacher should treat students with respect and equality. The teacher should try to keep a calm and safe environment in the classroom so that students can learn. The teacher should be certain that students have textbooks and other learning materials.

    Article lll

    Students should come to school with respect for the teachers and for other students. Students should walk into school with a good attitude, ready to learn. Students should be responsible for homework. Students should not speak out during lessons with things that are off the topic, and should be respectful when others are talking by listening. They should follow along with the lessons in class in order to learn. Students behave respectfully and in a safe manner toward each other and not say mean things to or about anyone. Respect should also be given to fellow students and teacher. Students should be sure to follow all behaviors laid out in the Student Handbook.

    Article lV

    Citizens of our classroom should have the freedom to:

    ~ Earn free time
    ~ Learn and explore through activities like science experiments and field trips
    ~ Socialize at appropriate times
    ~ Use the rest room when needed
    ~ Learn without interference or distractions from others

    ~ Hold classroom celebrations for appropriate occasions

    ~ Share ideas without interruption

    ~ Be allowed to vote for certain things, since we are a Democratic Republic

    ~ Participate in classroom discussions and learning

    ~ Express opinions in a respectful manner
    ~ Outdoor recess

    Article V

    Citizens of our classroom should have the freedom from:

    ~ Popcorn reading (at specific times)

    ~ Worries outside the classroom

    ~ Bullying

    ~ Unfair treatment from others, both adults and peers
