  • Physical Education Rules & Procedures

    (9th – 12th)

    1. Grading

-You will be able to earn up to 200 points per quarter. Each day you will be evaluated for the class based on 3 criteria which are Attitude (2), Effort & Participation (7), and Punctuality (1).

-At the end of the quarter your grade is calculated by the total number of points you have earned divided by the total number of points per quarter.

-Attendance will be taken in the first row of the bleachers. Students will be lined up in alphabetical order for attendance. If a student is late coming out of the locker room and is not in line for attendance, they will lose a point off of their daily points for tardiness.

Physical Education is a semester class. You will receive a final grade in both January and June. NYS requires that you have 2 credits of Physical Education to graduate. You can receive ¼ credits each semester. If you fail a semester, you will then be doubled up the following semester.

    1. Being unprepared

-This is where you do not bring your clothes for class.

-After the 3rd time, your teacher will write you a referral.

-Each time you are unprepared for class, you will receive 0 points for the day.

-4 or more times unprepared for class, you will automatically fail.

-An unprepared can be made up. However, when making up an unprepared, you will only be allowed to earn partial credit (at most 7 points) for that class. The unprepared class can only be made up within the same unit in which the unprepared occurred (example, if you were unprepared during the track unit, you would have to make it up before the track unit is over). This will also be limited to 3 times per quarter.

    1. Make-ups

-Absences need to be made-up. You can come in during 9th period, study hall or lunch. If you make-up a class during your lunch period, you will have time at the end to go to the cafeteria and get lunch.

-You will have 2 weeks from the time of your absence to make-up classes. After the 2 week period, the absence will remain as a part of your grade.

-Limit to 1 make-up per day.

    1. Medical Conditions

-If you have a doctor’s note, it must be brought to the nurse’s office. They will then give you a copy to give to us. Do not bring us a note without bringing it to the nurse first.

-Parents may write you a note if you are not feeling well, but it will only be good for 1 class. If you need to sit out longer than 1 class, a doctor’s note will be required. A class that is missed with a parents note will be required to be made up (same as an absence).

-A doctor’s note will excuse you from class, but we may have you participate in class in other ways (score keeper, helping with equipment, recording scores) to receive credit for the class. If there is no way to incorporate you into the class, then a written assignment will be assigned.

    1. Appropriate Clothing

-Clothing needs to be different from what was worn to school that day.

    -Sneakers must be tied.

-T-shirts- no tank tops or cut offs.

    -Must follow dress code.

    1. Jewelry

-Jewelry may not be worn in class due to safety reasons.

-You may give it to your teacher to be locked up for safe keeping.

    1. Lockers

-Lockers are for athletes only, currently on a sports team. If on a sports team, you may bring in a lock and sign out a locker with a Physical Education teacher. The lock may remain on for the entire season and must be removed at the end of the season. Lockers will be cleaned out in between seasons.

-The lockers are not school lockers. Do not leave your books and school supplies in your sports lockers. You will not be permitted into the locker room once class has begun.

    1. Valuables & Electronic Devices

-Valuables should not be brought to class. If you do bring something valuable and it gets stolen, the school district is not responsible.

-If you do not have a locker, you may give your valuables to your teacher to be locked up. This includes electronic devices. These items are not allowed to be used in class and if a teacher sees them they will be taken and sent to the office.

    1. Gum

-Gum is not allowed in class.

    1. Fire Drills

-The fire exit is by the boy’s locker room. Please exit as quietly as possible and we will meet out by the tree in the parking lot. We will then meet in our classes and take attendance.

    1. Student Athletes

-Student Athletes MUST participate in Physical Education in order to participate in their game or practice that day.
