INTRODUCTION

 

In this course we will be learning about the history and development of various countries around the world. We will also be confronted with the realization that nations of the world are interdependent. Therefore, in order to fully understand other parts of the world and why they are the way they are today, it is important to study the historical events that have shaped their lives and how in times of crisis they come together.

            As the world “shrinks” due to technology the importance of studying other parts of the world becomes even more essential. As a result, through our study of Global History we will begin to understand the events which have led to where we are today and which will hopefully better prepare us for the challenges we face in the future.

 

WHAT YOU NEED:

1.      A 3 ring binder as a notebook (2” is ideal) which should be organized chronologically

2.      Pens (blue or black ink ONLY) and pencils for quizzes and exams

3.      Loose leaf paper

4.      A textbook- covered at all times

5.      USB is recommended

 

ALL MATERIALS SHOULD COME TO CLASS EVERYDAY!!!

 

ASSIGNMENTS:

            All assignments are posted on the board at the beginning of the week. They should always have a proper heading which includes a title, date and students named listed on top. If multiple pages are created they should include the students name on each page and include page numbers. Assignments are to be handed in at the BEGINNING of class on the day they are due. Assignment grades are based on quality and completeness. Assignments turned in late without an acceptable excuse are never graded higher than a 75. Except in cases of absence, assignments must be turned in the next school day after they are due or they are graded “0” and cannot be made up. Students, who submit work that clearly demonstrates sharing of answers with another student, will result in BOTH students receiving a zero for that assignment.

 

PROJECTS:

            They will vary in length so depending on the depth of the project the time allotted will be at my discretion and will be announced when the project is introduced. Also, some projects will be equivalent to a test; you will be notified when the project is assigned if that is the case. You have 5 school days after the project is due to turn it in, each day late results in a 10 point deduction.

 

MAKE UP WORK:

            It is your RESPONSIBILITY to find out what work you have missed after being absent from school. Assignments must be made up within 5 days of the absence. To avoid loss of credit it is important to write “absent” at the top of your paper. If you are absent the day of a test/quiz you have 3 days to complete the test before a zero is given.

 

 CUTTING CLASS:

Cutting class is NOT acceptable and will result in a zero for whatever work is scheduled for class that day (this includes tests, quizzes, homework, projects, etc.) Parents will be contacted.

TEST/QUIZZES:

Pens and pencils are REQUIRED for ALL TESTS and QUIZZES! Tests will be announced at least three days in advance. However, quizzes may be given WITHOUT notice, therefore completing reading and other homework assignments are important. Notebooks will be collected once each marking period and will be announced in advance.

 

CURRENT EVENT SUMMARY:

            Once a month you will be required to find an article, not a brief, that focuses on an issue OUTSIDE of the UNITED STATES! The article must address one of the major world issues listed below and you will be given two weeks advanced notice when the summary is due. The article must be dated for that month. You may use newspapers, magazines or the Internet to find your article.

           

The following information will need to be included in your assignment:

1.      Proper student heading

2.      Major World Issue (from list)

3.      Title of the article

4.      Date of the article

5.      A copy of the article

6.      Source

7.      Short summary – who, what, where, when, and is the issue controversial.
