Occasionally, assignments will be converted to a "Get out of Jail Free" pass, rather than graded, at my discretion. When I decide to make an assignment into a "GOOJF," I will place a distinct mark (currently a leaping purple frog), at the top of that assignment and return it to each student who handed it in on time, used pen, and followed the directions of the task.*Students who failed to do this particular assignment will not be permitted to hand it in late.(It is each student's responsibility to hold onto their "GOOJF"s because I do not log them or keep track of them anywhere.)The value of a "GOOJF" pass is three-fold: it rewards a student for doing the assignment, helps each student gain responsibility by having to keep track of the pass and decide how to use it, and it allows the student to use the pass to their advantage in one of three ways.1. To take the place of a later homework assignment. Not to exceed 50 points. If a student does not complete an assignment, forgets to do it, or loses it, they can hand in the "GOOJF" pass and receive full credit for that missed homework assignment. In this event, the student must write the assignment name they are using the pass for to receive credit.2. To drop the lowest quiz grade for the current quarter. Not to exceed 30 points. If all assignments have been handed in for the current quarter, the "GOOJF" pass may be used to drop the lowest quiz grade of the quarter. In this event, the student must write the name of the quiz grade they want to be erased at the top of the page.3. To receive extra credit. Not to exceed 10 points. If all assignments have been handed in for the current quarter and all quiz grades are acceptable to the student, he or she may decide to hand it in for 10 extra-credit points. In this event, the student must write "extra credit" at the top of the page.* A GOOJF may NOT be used in the following instances:a) to earn credit on a 0/100 dayb) to negate a 0 received for forging a signature or cheatingc) to drop a presentation grade or forego the presentationd) to take the place of a homework assignment worth 50+ pointse) to drop a quiz grade worth 30+ points.
