In-person, Remote, and Hybrid Learning Information 2021-2022
Welcome to our 2021-2022 school year! We all learned a lot over the past year and a half and it's looking like we're going to continue this experience in some shape or form. Sure, we all went through various stages of apprehension, confusion, and fear last year. This time around the hope is that we all have a better understanding of how a remote, hybrid, and/or in-person school year plays out and how to transition from one to the other without losing a step. While some students find the independence of remote learning to be a positive, I understand that many others are more successful when present in a classroom. I am hoping that we are able to attend classes together, in person, and put this horrible chapter behind us. The key ingredient throughout this process is going to be flexibility. I am going to do everything I can to be flexible and I ask that you be flexible with me as well...and patient. If you have any questions or comments as to how your learning experience may be better please let me know. I would appreciate all the help I can get.
The first few days of school will involve making sure schedules are correct, students have the necessary information and technology to attend classes, and getting to know one another. Once all the kinks are worked out information regarding expectations and class content will be provided. In the meantime take a look at the district website, my school website, and the websites of all your teachers. A lot of helpful information can be found by visiting these sites.
1. AttendanceAttendance will be taken daily. If you are unable to attend one of your scheduled classes let your teacher know. Be sure to get the work that you missed and complete any assignments that were due.2. Sign up for Remind AND Check your school email dailyTeachers will use to communicate various information such as assignments, quizzes, tests, projects, due dates, etc. I will be using Remind and/or email to let students know about changes in assignment requirements, work that is owed, and/or other important announcements.3. Check your remote learning platform (Google Classroom, Schoology, etc.) dailyEverything that you are going to need to complete all of your assignments will be on your teachers' online platforms. Most teachers are using Google Classroom. All assignments can and should be accessed and submitted through these online platforms. We will also post comments to various assignments indicating something that needs to be reworked. My Google Classroom Code for Resource Room:- 5th Period: ph5vdbk

4. Check your teachers' websites regularlyIt is important that you are regularly checking your teachers' school district websites. Teachers will post grading policies, assignments, due dates, and resources that can be very helpful when completing assignments.5. Students who require texts to be read to themGoogle Classroom - The first option under the Accessibility menu is Speak. The easiest way to use this function is to highlight the text a student needs read to them, go to the Accessibility menu, and choose Speak selection.Students can also use an add-on app called Read Aloud. I have a detailed explanation of the Read Aloud app, how it can be used, and how to install it on my district website. There are many text-to-speech programs available, I believe Read Aloud is the easiest to download and use with all kinds of text. I encourage my students to get used to apps like Read Aloud so that as they enter the last two years of high school they are working at becoming more independent learners and individuals as a whole.6. QuizletOne of the best ways to review information for a test and/or a quiz is by using Quizlet. Quizlet is an excellent way to study key vocabulary. Quizlet provides a handful of methods for reviewing key terms and their definitions. Two methods that I find effective are the "Learn" and "Match" methods. - 5th Period: ph5vdbk
