English Period ____ Class Introduction
Before we begin the new school year, let me welcome you to my class. My name is Ms. Antonelli. I will be your English Teacher for this year. It is my pleasure to be teaching you and to be working in the Saugerties Central School District!
You will find that there will be many new challenges for you as you pass from one grade to another. You are getting very close to the New York State Board of Regents Examination. This means that there are skills that need to be improved and mastered in order for you to excel. I expect you to work hard to achieve these goals. I will work with you to give you any help that you may need. If you need extra help, feel free to sign up for an after school appointment. I will be available at least two days of the week. If you need help, you need to ask me for help.
You are expected to be responsible. You will be required to do all assignments, whether ill, absent or excused. If you have been absent, you must come to me to get the work. I will not chase after you. I will allow any student to make up a missed assignment within TWO days of the due date. There will be a penalty of 10 points per day until the assignment is completed. After the TWO days the assignment will become a ZERO. Students that are absent will not receive a penalty for late homework. It is your responsibility to keep track of your work and to make up missed material. If you do not, your grades will reflect your shortcomings.
Discipline should be no problem for us. You will be asked to conduct yourself in a socially acceptable and polite manner. I will treat you with respect at all times and expect you to do the same for others in the class.
You will need a 3 ring binder for your English notes. Bring your binder to class every day. You must keep your notes up-to-date. You will need a composition book for your journal. Bring your journal to class every day. You are expected to use pens for all assignments. I will not lend pens. All work handed in must have a heading.
Finally, I believe my classes are worthwhile, interesting, and fun. I sincerely hope that you will feel the same. I look forward to working with you and learning from you as you learn from me. I am looking forward to a promising new year. Let’s begin!!
Sincerely,
Ms. Antonelli
